Die Zahl der Piratenangriffe auf den Weltmeeren ist in der ersten Jahreshälfte 2021 deutlich zurückgegangen. Nach Daten des Internationalen Schifffahrtsbüros (IMB) gab es 68 Piratenangriffe und bewaffnete Raubüberfälle auf Schiffe - verglichen mit 98 Vorfällen im gleichen Zeitraum des Vorjahres. Das sei die „bisher niedrigste Zahl an Piraterieangriffen seit 1994“, berichtete das zur Internationalen Handelskammer (ICC) gehörende Schifffahrtsbüro am Montag.

IMO Urges Action to Combat Piracy in Gulf of Guinea – gCaptain

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will convene a maritime security working group in response to the growing number of pirate attacks on ships in the Gulf of Guinea.
The working group is set to meet at the next session of the Maritime Safety Committee, MSC 103, scheduled to take place in May, to provide an opportunity for Member States and international organizations to discuss further collaboration and possible action to address the problem.
IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim expressed his concern about the escalation in the number and severity of attacks on ships and crew in the Gulf of Guinea region, and insisted on the need for stakeholders to work together to restore security and reduce the threats to the safety and security of crews and vessels operating in the region. ....

A bulk carrier belonging to NASDAQ-listed Eagle Bulk Shipping is reported safe and its crew unharmed after a pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea.
The incident was confirmed Monday by Eagle Bulk Shipping in a tweet informing that its owned Ultramax bulker carrier Rowayton Eagle was hijacked about 240 miles southeast of Lagos, Nigeria. The company also hailed the ship’s Captain for his leadership throughout the ordeal.
