After traveling unopposed through middle splits of :54.4 and 1:22.2, the six-year-old American Ideal gelding accelerated clear by as much as 2-1/2 lengths through the far turn, but Aflame Hanover worked to close that gap turning for home. Undeterred, Vettel N held his ground while driven out to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Aflame Hanover. The daughter of Dragon Again notched her seasonal fourth victory from nine starts, upping her 2021 earnings to $58,335 for owners L&L Stables of Springfield, Ohio and William A Hartt, of Carmel, Maine. Bucking a trend on a front-end-favouring day, Marsala Hanover sat in the pocket for driver Scott Zeron when Classicist worked to the top, getting a fine journey behind fractions of :26.3, :54.4, and 1:22.2. Classicist proved a tough rival to overhaul late, but Zeron, guiding his third winner on the day, rallied the winner of $326,438 by late to post a half length decision for trainer Linda Toscano and the ownership of Let It Ride Stables Inc., Bottom Line Racing LLC, South Mountain Stables, and Little E LLC. ....
A total of four $50,000 Ohio Sires Stakes (OHSS) divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies and three-year-old trotting colts are set for Saturday (June 5) at Northfield Park in round-two action of the four-leg series for the Buckeye State’s finest-bred youngsters.
