CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Though the actual COVID-19 vaccines are free, some providers are charging an “administration fee” that may get passed along to the patient.
Some people who received a vaccine at MUSC reported a $51 administration fee. The money helps to cover costs associated with obtaining, storing, scheduling and providing trained staff and supplies for vaccine administration, according to MUSC Spokesperson Heather Woolwine.
“At MUSC, our focus is to get shots in arms as quickly as possible and this requires resources, time and skill,” she said. ....

Alaska now to offer vaccines to non-resident seafood industry workers buffeted by COVID-19 outbreaks

Alaska officials will allow seafood industry workers from other states equal access to COVID-19 vaccines, a policy shift made Wednesday in the aftermath of outbreaks that flared in plants and offshore processing ships.
“While working in our state or fishing in our waters, we intend to protect your workers with the same standard of care we are extending to all Alaskans,” said a letter emailed Wednesday from the office of Gov. Mike Dunleavy to seafood and other industry officials.
Alaska seafood workers are vital to producing the fish burgers and other staples of the nation’s seafood supply. They often are at risk for serious outbreaks of the novel coronavirus that in recent weeks has infected hundreds and stalled production at some major plants. ....

A factory trawler joined a growing list of seafood processors and vessels in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands that have experienced COVID-19 outbreaks recently.
Twenty members of the 40-member crew on the factory trawler Araho, owned by the O’Hara Corp., tested positive for the virus, the City of Unalaska said Friday.
Upon arrival in Unalaska from Seattle on Wednesday night, a couple of crew members reported symptoms of COVID-19, according to Unalaska city manager Erin Reinders, who said testing began when the vessel arrived. She said there’s a plan being developed to coordinate care of people who tested positive and what to do with the others. ....
