Lewis named MVP, Central men third at conference indoor track meet WAVERLY Central College men’s track and field junior Brock Lewis (Lathrop, Mo.) was named Field Events Most Valuable Performer at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships as the team finished third Sunday. Wartburg College won the team title with 172 points. Central had 112 in third place. “I’m very happy with how we did today” coach Brandon Sturman said. “I told the team before the meet that we couldn’t get out to a slow start. We needed to get out there and get warmed up and make sure we were ready to go. We broke 100 points and separated ourselves from fourth place.” ....
Central’s Lewis breaks conference triple jump record PELLA A record-breaking effort in the triple jump by junior Brock Lewis (Lathrop, Mo.) highlighted the Central College men’s track and field’s triangular meet against Loras College and Buena Vista University Saturday. The Dutch finished runner-up with 104.5 points. Loras College won the title with 119.5 and Buena Vista was third with 53. Lewis leapt 48 feet, 1.75 inches on his fifth jump of the day to break the school and American Rivers Conference record for the triple jump. Lewis had jumped a season-best 46-5.5 last Saturday. “I thought it was a big jump last week but he was even more motivated this week.” Coach Sturman said. “He’s feeling the differences in his jumps and now hopefully we can go win a conference championship. ....
The field events packed a punch for the Central College men’s indoor track and field team in winning a home triangular meet Saturday afternoon. Central tallied 116 points, outpacing Simpson’s 87 and Luther’s 74. Remaining undefeated this season in the long jump and triple jump, Brock Lewis won both events. His triple jump reached 46 feet, 5.5 inches and he long jumped 23-0.75. Central also had the winning pole vault (13-5.5) from Tanner Johnson and the top high jump (6-4) from Matt Riedemann. Joe Stein had another strong weekend, winning both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the second week in a row. He matches his personal-best time in the 60-meter dash (6.95 seconds) and improved his 200-meter dash time to 22.57 seconds. ....
