The Milwaukee River Watershed Clean Farm Families group was formed in 2016 and initially included the Milwaukee River watershed as the project area. The group expanded in 2021 to include all of Ozaukee County except for the Cedar Creek Watershed, which is covered by the Cedar Creek Farmers Producer-led group.
This spring Clean Farm Families hosted a no-till-planter preparation clinic. Fifty-five attendees heard speaker Joe Condon of Prospect Ag Services in Horicon.
Clean Farm Families has established a 35-acre soil-health and cover-crop demonstration site 1.5 miles south of Fredonia, adjacent to Wisconsin Highway 57. The site will enable visitors to compare plots with no-till and cover crops to plots with tillage and no cover crops. Emphasis is placed on achieving healthy soils. Information is collected on crop yield, input costs, changes in physical and chemical soil properties, erosion and runoff. The goal for the demonstration site is to show that no-till along with cover crops

Unlike many Americans, the former San Diegan became determined to do something in response.
As a rabbi and religious scholar, who grew up in Allied Gardens and now lives in a Philadelphia suburb, she pondered the common themes of various religious texts on truth, justice, love, caring for the vulnerable, welcoming strangers and how they needed to be heeded in the days ahead.
That’s when she got what she calls a “far-fetched idea” of assembling messages from religious voices of all faiths, backgrounds and geographic locations, of all ages, genders and ethnicities, to send words of guidance to then newly elected President

Marty Weiss has no memory of his grandmother Sadie. Nor does the 85-year-old resident of San Diego’s San Carlos neighborhood remember anyone in his family ever visiting Israel or having a desire to move there.
But 98 years ago in New York, Jewish housewife Sadie Weiss made a significant investment in her family’s future. In September 1923, she bought five shares of stock in a bank created to fund the establishment of a Jewish homeland. Twenty-five years later, her dream was achieved when the state of Israel was created in the aftermath of the Holocaust. But by then, Sadie was gone, and the story of her shares died with her.

Through a year of uncertainties, with bar and bat mitzvahs moving from event halls to Zoom screens, Adin Markowitz was sure of only one thing: When he turned 13 in December, his bar mitzvah would include singing, over-the-top dancing and a famous coat of many colors, come pandemic or high water.
It’s traditional for bar and bat mitzvah celebrants to chant the Torah portion in synagogue as they mark the rite of passage. For Markowitz, who was born on Hanukkah, that meant he would be reading Parashat Miketz, which tells the story of Joseph’s rise to power in Egypt.
