How do we value the voices of Reno County citizens? In regard to wind, I’m concerned we’re increasingly giving consideration only to anti-wind voices without regard for the hundreds of employees at Siemens, the landowners who have signed leases for wind turbines, the increased business traffic in local businesses (diners, hotels, etc.) during the construction of a wind farm, and the millions of dollars wind farms bring to county budgets.
The wind energy regulations drafted by the Reno County Planning Commission submitted for Reno County Commission approval reflect the work done to balance concerns raised by citizens of Reno County and the feasibility of wind energy projects. It was developed with input from public comment, expert testimony, and staff over months of deliberation and supported by a 5-1 vote. A proposal for high-density housing could bring affordable rental units to Park City. Many people living near the project site are against it.
Developers want to build 410 new homes for rent, including 144 affordable dwellings, on a 41-acre parcel off of Interstate 80 in the Highland Estates neighborhood in Park City.
The Highland Flats project proposal comes as housing prices are skyrocketing and blue-collar workers and those in a host of service and hospitality jobs are increasingly unable to afford to live in the resort town. ....

Galt prepares to adopt new state housing element

On Jan. 14, Galt Planning Commission held a public presentation detailing the implementation of new housing requirements set by the State of California. The update to the existing 2013-21 Housing Element (which is one of 10 elements in the cityâs General Plan) addresses both current and future housing needs, the opportunities and constraints with respect to housing production, and the policies or programs necessary for the city to carry out those needs.
Updates to the Housing Element are required every eight years. Each planning period must address new state laws enacted since the last planning period.
Craig Hoffman, community development director for the city, summarizes this periodic development as a means to âidentify and analyze existing and projected housing needs in an effort to preserve, improve and develop housing for all economic segments of the community.â ....
