Arizona Governor Along With 12 Others Ask Supreme Court To Overturn Roe v. Wade


 
PHOENIX Gov. Doug Ducey wants the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn it s historic decision in Roe v. Wade and leave the question of whether to allow abortion in Arizona to state lawmakers and to him as an unapologetic foe of the practice. 
 
Ducey is among 12 governors who filed a brief Thursday with the nation s high court in support of a Mississippi law that bans terminating a pregnancy after the 15th week. Enforcement of that law has been blocked by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. 
 
But the brief goes beyond arguments by Mississippi that the law is a permissible regulation of abortion as it does not ban the practice outright.  ....

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed a sweeping bill into law that makes it a felony to perform an abortion based on genetic abnormalities of unborn babies, such as Down syndrome, and also enacts several other pro-life measures. 
Known as Senate Bill 1457, Ducey signed the legislation on Tuesday, saying in a statement that the new law is part of his commitment to pro-life ideals.
“There’s immeasurable value in every single life — regardless of genetic makeup,” stated Ducey. “We will continue to prioritize protecting life in our preborn children, and this legislation goes a long way in protecting real human lives.” ....

Arizona Governor Signs Bill Restricting Certain Abortions

PHOENIX Rejecting fears by doctors they could get arrested, Gov. Doug Ducey on Tuesday signed a new law restricting who can get an abortion.
The measure, which takes effect later this year makes it a Class 6 felony to terminate a pregnancy if the woman is seeking the procedure because of a fetal genetic defect. The verbiage is so broad that it also could result in similar charges and potentially a year in state prison for nurses and others who assist, potentially including clerical staff.
Ducey praised the measure.
