A year after Covid-19 cratered the Manhattan sales market, the borough is poised for a recovery, thanks to price cuts, renewed confidence in the city and a surge of first-time home buyers.
In the first quarter of this year, the number of closed sales exceeded those from the same period in 2020 for the first time in a year, with 2,457 sales, a modest increase of 2.1 percent, according to a new market report from the brokerage Douglas Elliman. Another brokerage, Brown Harris Stevens, using different sales data, said closed sales rose 6 percent. ....

SoftBank Group-backed Compass valued at $8.22 billion in NYSE debut

(Reuters) - Shares of SoftBank Group Corp-backed Compass Inc jumped 18% in their stock market debut on Thursday after being priced at the lower end of the reduced initial public offering (IPO) price range.
Stock opened at $21.25, above the IPO price of $18 per share, giving the real estate brokerage firm a market value of $8.22 billion, and a fully diluted valuation of over $10 billion, which includes options and restricted stock.
The company, which downsized its IPO and reduced its price target range, sold 25 million shares on Wednesday, raising about $450 million. It was earlier looking to raise about $936 million by selling 36 million shares at the upper end of its initial price range of $23 to $26 per share. ....

SoftBank-backed Compass raises $450 million in downsized IPO

(Reuters) -Compass Inc, the U.S. real estate technology firm backed by SoftBank Group, said on Wednesday it sold shares in its initial public offering at $18 each, at the lower end of its downsized target range to raise $450 million.
Compass had previously set a price range of $18-$19 per share, downsized from its prior target at $23 to $26. At $18, a fully diluted valuation, which includes securities such as options and restricted stock, would be $9 billion, compared to $6.4 billion in its most recent private funding round in 2019.
The IPO is a sign of investor fatigue for new stocks, with companies already raising over $36 billion through U.S. IPOs this quarter, up more than 360% year on year, according to Refinitiv. ....

NEW YORK, March 31, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Compass, Inc. (Compass) today announced the pricing of its initial public offering of 25,000,000 shares of its Class A common stock at a public offering price of $18.00 per share. The shares are expected to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange on April 1, 2021 under the ticker symbol COMP. The offering is expected to close on April 6, 2021, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
In addition, the underwriters have been granted a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 3,750,000 shares of Class A common stock from Compass at the initial public offering price, less underwriting discounts and commissions. ....
