CDC says everyone in Routt County should wear a mask — vaccinated or not

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone regardless of vaccination status wear a mask in indoor, public spaces in Routt County.
Routt County has a transmission rate that would lead federal officials to classify it as an area of high transmission, especially because of the delta variant, which is now responsible for about 95% of new cases in Colorado.
High transmission means there are at least 50 cases of the virus per 100,000 people over the previous seven days, which translates to roughly 13 cases per week in Routt County. The most recent week saw 25 new cases, according to the Routt County Public Health Department. ....

Decision to require masks in schools this fall up to local officials

The decision on whether Routt County students will be required to wear masks when the 2021-22 school year starts this fall will be up to local officials, as new guidance from the state of Colorado is just that a recommendation.
All state public health orders regarding schools will be allowed to expire at the end of July, and state health officials released guidance Tuesday
they said is derived from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines released earlier this month.

Routt County to host vaccine clinic for local immigrant communities

In an effort to get closer to equitable vaccine access for all Coloradans, state health officials are partnering with local organizations to hold clinics intended to reach immigrant, low-income and other underserved communities.
One of these equity clinics will be held in Steamboat Springs next week with the goal of reaching many locals who do not speak English as their first language. The Routt County Public Health Department is working with local nonprofit Integrated Community to set up the clinic.
“We have been working with them since the beginning of the pandemic, really doing community testing in Spanish, giving information about vaccines, so this was really the next step for us,” said Maria Paula, interpretation and translation program coordinator for Integrated Community. ....

While the vaccine rollout has hit snags across the U.S., including in many large urban areas, some rural counties with their smaller populations and well-connected communities have gotten creative about getting the doses out quickly to long-term care facilities.
Bingo is back in the dining room. In-person visits have returned, too, though with masks and plexiglass. The Haven Assisted Living Facility’s residents are even planning a field trip for a private movie screening once they’ve all gotten their second round of covid-19 vaccines.

Such changes are small but meaningful to residents in the Hayden, Colorado, long-term care home, and they’re due mostly to the arrival of the vaccine. ....

Local vaccine supply sees massive increase

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS After weeks of just a few hundred doses of coveted COVID-19 vaccine trickling in to a handful of Routt County entities, the allocation skyrocketed this week.
“We received a large supply of vaccines this week,” Routt County Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian Harrington said during Wednesday’s Board of Health meeting.
UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center alone received 1,075 doses, 600 of which were made available to people 70 and older during clinics held Wednesday and Thursday. The local hospital is holding vaccine clinics every day this week with each day separated as either a first-dose or second-dose clinic. ....
