The Wall Street-Captured Fed Consolidates Its Power Under Biden Published: June 9, 2021 Janet Yellen, the current U.S. Treasury Secretary, is also the Chair of the Financial Stability Oversight Council, which includes every Wall Street regulator. Before coming to the Treasury Department, Yellen was the Chair of the Federal Reserve and had spent the bulk of her working career at the Fed or the San Francisco Fed. Yellen was a Federal Reserve Board Governor when she was appointed Fed Chair. Her term as a Governor didn’t expire until 2024. Yellen could have remained in that position. Instead, she opted for millions of dollars in quick cash from the very same mega banks that the Fed had been regulating during her tenure there. These were also the same banks that had blown up the U.S. financial system in 2008 and received a super-secret $29 trillion bailout from the Fed. The details of the Fed’s astronomical bailouts to the Wall Street mega banks were only made public a ....
Scientists Say Most Whale Strikes Go Undocumented NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. Scientists, researchers, and environmentalists have long grappled with how best to analyze the occurrence of vessel strikes that kill or injure endangered whales and other marine mammals along the feeding ground waterways of the California coast. In Huntington Beach, a 63-foot fin whale washed onto California shores on May 19, after it was struck by an Australian Navy ship on its way to San Diego. Such occurrences are the only way researchers know when an animal has died. That vessel strike left two animals dead, including the one towed to sea in San Diego, which later washed up on Bolsa Chica State Beach, and a calf, which was buried on land. ....

While those moving through the criminal justice system often experience fines and fees as a single, ongoing burden, there are key distinctions between how each of these revenue sources are assessed and imposed. ....
Technology Helps Determine Extent of Seafloor Dumpsite NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. An area encompassing more than 36,000 acres containing more than 27,000 “barrel-like” images lying on the seafloor, stretching between Catalina Island and the coast off Los Angeles, has been documented by marine scientists. The discovery was made during an expedition led by University of California–San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Although widely reported in the media that the barrels contain the harmful chemical compound DDT, that information has not been confirmed. Eric Terrill, director of the Marine Physical Laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and chief scientist for the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, told the Epoch Times that the expedition survey did not measure the exact contents inside the discovered barrel field. ....
