The new Red Sonja movie has found its star. Hannah John-Kamen, best-known to genre fans for her breakout work in SYFY s Killjoys and her roles in films like Ready Player One and Ant-Man and the Wasp, has been cast as the lead in the upcoming reboot of the sword and sorcery heroine s film adventures, according to “Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” director Joey Soloway said in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.” ....

Red Sonja reboot finds a new screenwriter, casting to begin immediately It’s been over a year and a half since Transparent creator Joey Soloway signed on to replace Bryan Singer in the director’s chair for Millennium Films’ long-planned Red Sonja reboot, and now it seems the project is finally ready to move forward. THR reports that up-and-coming screenwriter Tasha Huo, showrunner and executive producer of an upcoming Tomb Raider anime for Netflix, has signed on to write the script for the fantasy adventure. Casting is set to begin immediately, with Millennium set to shop the project at the European Film Market. ....

THR reports that Huo, will be showrunning Netflix’s upcoming animated Tomb Raider series, will pen the script for the long-in-development fantasy adaptation. The film has been in the works for quite some time, with Brian Singer set to direct until he was dropped due to allegations of sexual assault in early 2019. Transparent creator Jill Solloway is set to direct the film, which will begin casting immediately. “I have loved Red Sonja forever and I feel so honored to help shepherd her story and start this cinematic journey. There could not be a greater moment in our world for Red Sonja’s ways of wielding power and her connection with nature and our planet,” said Soloway. “She is an ancient heroine with an epic calling, and translating that to the screen is a dream come true for me as a filmmaker.
