On the blistery evening of Feb. 11, the Humble City Council approved a general joint election to be held May 1 for the purpose of electing a mayor and city council member places 1 and 2.
There are three contested positions, with six residents seeking the posts, two for the mayoral position and four for the council seats. The last day to file was Friday, Feb. 12. Former Council Member Norman Funderburk will face Arliss Bentley for the mayor’s job. Funderburk, who served on city council for almost seven years, resigned in mid-January shortly after current Mayor Merle Aaron announced he would retire and not seek reelection. Bentley, a retired educator, has run for office in Humble several times.
Humble Rodeo kicks off scaled-down event amid coronavirus pandemic

“It’s a live, full blown rodeo,” said rodeo vice president Robert Sitton.
Full-blown in terms of the events scaled back in terms of the crowd this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Humble Rodeo was able to proceed in part because of a smaller venue. Compared to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which had to cancel this year’s event Humble had less to manage.
“What we’ve had to do is tier our ticket sales,” Sitton said. “So we had to really manage our online ticket sales, Cavender’s ticket stores.”

Whether you are looking for a calf scramble, chute dogging, or muttin bustin, the Humble ISD Education Foundation is holding their rodeo starting today at the Humble Civic Center Arena.
The Humble Rodeo and last week’s BBQ Cook-Off support grants through the Humble ISD Education Foundation. These grants fund initiatives submitted by teachers in the district that help get students excited about learning and engaged in the classroom, according to Jerri Monbaron, Executive Director for the Humble ISD Education Foundation. Teachers will be selected in April and awarded in May.

KINGWOOD: The Kingwood High School Theater is kicking off their 2021 season with a performance of The Wedding Singer on Jan. 14. The Wedding Singer is based on a 1998 American romantic comedy film headlined by Adam Sandler and a subsequent broadway musical by the same name. Performances begin on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. Kingwood High School is located at 2701 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood. Student tickets are $15 while general admission passes are $20.
