.-The Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida collaborated with UF College of the Arts, Museum Studies Professor and UF Graduate Student in the Department of English to organize and present its newest exhibition Shadow to Substance on view from July 27, 2021 to February 27, 2022. The exhibition represents a chronological arc from the past to the present, and into the future by displaying historical photographs of Black lives and new work by Black photographers. Sixteen photographs by eleven photographic artists were recently purchased for the Harn Museum’s permanent collection and are the heart of Shadow to Substance. ....

The Rev. Dr. William J Barber II to speak as part of the MLK Advocacy for Justice Virtual Celebration, Sunday, January 17 at 3:00 pm. 
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Two longstanding Champaign County committees, Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Committee and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Advocacy for Justice Committee, Inc. unite this year to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the 2021 Annual Countywide Celebration.
 This year’s theme is “Rising Together: Facing the Challenges of Tomorrow Today.” 
Highlighting the 2021 event will be an address by the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, President & Senior Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach and Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival. Rev. Barber will be the keynote speaker during this year’s Annual Countywide Celebration on Sunday ....

On Dec. 20, 1958, exactly 62 years ago, a young law student on his way home for the holiday break was on the brink of setting the country one step forward towards racial equality. His arrest on misdemeanor charges in a racially charged case resulted two years later in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision outlawing segregation in public transportation.
