The Covid-19 induced lockdown triggered a spate of pyschological problems among people, who suddenly got disconnected with the outside world. The psychology department of Saurashtra University handled as many as 45,000 calls from all over Gujarat in the last one year with people pouring their hearts out to the counsellors about their extreme state of mind. Four professors of the department have compiled the serious and extreme cases with possible remedies in a 400 page book that will be distributed free of cost to the Abhayam helplines, counsellors, universities and libraries. The book has been prepared by Yogesh Jogsan, Dhara Doshi, Dimple Ramani Hasmukh Chavda and two students. They said the book will come handy for people in dealing with such an unprecedented crisis, reports Nimesh Khakhariya in Rajkot ....
Rajkot:Fear psychosis due to Covid-19 pandemic and depression caused due to confinement inside the house due to lockdown has resulted in a spike in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among urban women. The psychology department of Saurashtra University, which started a counselling helpline, has found nearly 700 women suffering from PCOS in the last 11 months when this facility was launched. These women had approached the helpline to seek guidance for various symptoms like lack of sleep, mood swings and irregular menstruation but these turned out to be cases of PCOS when they visited the gynecologists. PCOS is a fairly common condition among urban women now which causes imbalances in the hormones. Poor lifestyle including lack of exercise and unhealthy food habits is one the main reasons for this condition. ....
