Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed authorities to set up a committee to study the use of green chiretta (Andrographis paniculata) extracts to treat Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms.
The announcement was made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which was convened to discuss additional measures to help curb the Covid-19 outbreak, the premier said on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was appointed head of the committee.
It will coordinate studies on the safety and efficacy of green chiretta extracts on Covid-19 patients, as well as draft a strategic plan to promote Thai traditional medicine in general. ....

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is promoting the cultivation of green chiretta a traditional herb which can aid the recovery of Covid-19 patients to farmers throughout the country.
Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Mananya Thaiset, said the Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Promotion Department will promote green chiretta to agricultural cooperatives around the country. This comes after recent research which showed the plant contains high quantities of andrographolides, which has been proven to aid recovery from Covid-19.
The project, which will run from August to December, will see around 100 rai of land controlled by five agricultural cooperatives planted with green chiretta supplied by the Department of Thai Traditional and Complementary Medicine (DTAM). Next year, the project will be expanded across 40 ....

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is preparing to give 100,000 seeds of fa thalai jone herbs to factories for planting under a plan to treat workers infected with Covid-19.
Fa thalai jone (Andrographis paniculata) is currently in the spotlight after a study by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine found it can treat symptoms of Covid-19 patients.
The herb can help workers as many of them have yet to receive vaccines amid a surge in daily infections, said Sakchai Unchittikul, vice-chairman of FTI and chairman of the Institute of Agro-Based Industries. ....

The Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital Foundation on Monday said in a statement that its stock of fah talai jone (andrographis paniculata) pills was at a low level due to the surge in demand.
The foundation said it had so far distributed fah talai jone pills via government agencies, non-governmental organisations and donors.
Demand for the herb has shot up after a recent study by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine showed that it could cure Covid-19 patients who had mild symptoms and were asymptomatic. ....
