Rochester and Kelsey s Landing Maplewood Rose Garden, above the former Kelsey s Landing, was the meeting spot for escaping slaves. Boats would pick up passengers on the Underground Railroad generally in this spot that was once Kelsey s Landing and head north up the Genesee River to Lake Ontario to then go to Canada or points west of Rochester. Sites in Monroe and Wayne County Various sites around Rochester and east to Wayne County tell significant parts of the Underground Railroad story. (Also see the video below). Terminus Pultneyville Pultneyville and Williamson were some of the last stops in the area on the Underground Railroad. A map of Pultneyville in the mid 1800s shows a pier jutting out into Lake Ontario. Massillon cemetery cleanup May 1 seeks volunteers The Repository MASSILLON –  Volunteers are invited for a work session from 9 a.m. to noon on  May 1, rain or shine, to help clean up the Massillon cemetery. The event is in celebration of Earth Day (April 22) and anticipation of Mothers Day (May 9) and Memorial Day (May 31), according to a news release. Volunteers should bring gloves, rakes, clippers, whisk brooms, pruners, brooms, weed trimmers and other small tools to clean the oldest part of the cemetery. Any history- or community-minded person or group is encouraged to participate. The concentration will be trimming and leaf and debris removal to an on-site composting area.
