The famous carnival in St. Thomas is in full swing this weekend first time since the pandemic hit. “We didn’t have it last year, so we came out this year to take part in it,” says Jason Jackson who visited the Carnival Sunday with his children Jarred and Joelle. To kick off the fun, St. Anne’s Community Festival teamed up with the World’s Finest Shows to get the rides, games and food trucks up and running. ‘Everything has been great so far, everyone has been so happy to be back and having fun outside and so are we,” says Patrick Jamieson with World’s Finest shows. ....
LONDON, ONT After three decades of servicing vulnerable members of the St. Thomas Ont., community, the doors at Psychiatric Survivors Network of Elgin (PSNE) are closing. I m sorry it s happening, I really am because I enjoyed being there with them, says Patricia Rusk, a member of PSNE s board of directors. The peer-to-peer lived experience support group recently celebrated its 30 year anniversary. They ve helped those with addictions, homelessness and those in crisis but the drop-in centre will be shutting down due to a lack of funding from South West LHIN according to Rusk. They will try to take appointments by phone or social media. ....
LONDON, ONT After backlash from the Ontario public, Premier Doug Ford has loosened his stance on one outdoor restriction. Less than 24 hours after his Friday news conference Ford tweeted this afternoon that playgrounds will be opened. Ontario’s enhanced restrictions were always intended to stop large gatherings where spread can happen, Ford tweeted. Our regulations will be amended to allow playgrounds but gatherings outside will still be enforced. Play outside safely. Parents keep your distance & wear masks if you can’t. However despite one change, the others will remain. Signs reading Beach Closed went up on the main beach in Port Stanley Ont., and barricades were placed across the municipal parking lots Saturday morning. ....
