2021-04-24 13:30:42 GMT2021-04-24 21:30:42(Beijing Time) Xinhua English DAR ES SALAAM, April 24 (Xinhua) Tanzania s Zanzibar on Saturday announced the temporary suspension of marine transport due to the looming tropical cyclone Jobo, said a statement from the Minister of State in the Office of Zanzibar s Vice-President. According to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), the cyclone is expected to make a landfall in Tanzania s coastal belt of Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Pwani, Mtwara and Zanzibar on Sunday which could cause devastation. TMA said in its weather update on Saturday that the strength of the cyclone has weakened as it is approaching Tanzania s coastal belt. ....
Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) in a statement on Thursday also confirmed that the cyclone, which has appeared in the Indian Ocean, is currently in Madagascar heading north. The statement said the tropical cyclone could make landfall over the northeastern coast of Lindi region on Sunday, April 25. “The presence of tropical cyclone may impact our weather systems by influencing strong winds and large waves,” part of the statement read. TMA said it will continue monitoring the progress of the tropical cyclone and other weather systems associated with it which may change the strength, speed and direction of the cyclone. The statement further said TMA will also continue updating the public on the progress of the tropical cyclone and advise accordingly. ....
By Reuters Staff 1 Min Read DAR ES SALAAM, April 23 (Reuters) - Tanzania has asked fishermen to avoid going into the ocean off the coast of its commercial capital Dar es Salaam and its southern Mtwara region ahead of the landing of Tropical Cyclone Jobo on Sunday, a senior official said on Friday. Tropical Cyclone Jobo, located near Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, is expected to land in Dar es Salaam at 60 kilometres per hour, cause heavy rains and large waves in the sea, Agnes Kijazi, the director general of Tanzania Meteorological Authority told reporters. “For fishermen who do their activities especially in the southern coastline from Dar es Salaam to Mtwara, it is important that they take precautions by stopping and waiting until the cyclone passes,” she said. ....
