Sales of new electric cars surged by 59 per cent in 2020, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The federal government body has revealed a total of 20,095 electric cars were registered in 2020, compared with 12,651 in 2019.

a weak June result but the strongest month since the start of the pandemic – as semiconductor shortages continued to slow deliveries and stretch waiting times. ....

The Ranger and HiLux were the top two sellers, reversing the usual order, with the Isuzu D-Max taking third spot.
Its 3,167 sales were almost double compared with a year earlier, surging by 92.9 per cent.
This is the best-ever result for Isuzu in Australia.
The Mitsubishi Triton was ninth but its sales of 2,240 were 17.7 per cent weaker compared with a year ago when Australia had just emerged out of a national lockdown.
