What's next for the Seneca IDA? | Regional News

Last week, that changed with the unexpected announcement that the IDA was seeking a new board member.
“I do not feel I could give the time needed with all that’s going on with the store and having recently joined the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce,” Cirencione said after the IDA announced it was seeking another member. She declined to go into any greater detail about the decision.
An announcement from IDA leadership, which is headed by Executive Director Sarah Davis, stated that they were seeking a board member with business leadership and management skills, including executive management decision making, finance, accounting, agriculture marketing and sales in an industrial manufacturing or service industry environment. ....

Sharing sales tax is once again up for debate in Seneca County.
A special committee has been re-identified to study the matter, which has been debated several times over the last 4-5 years.
Chairman Bob Hayssen appointed supervisors Kyle Barnhart, Cindy Lorenzetti, Paul Kronenwetter, Michael Reynolds and Don Trout to the committee.
In the past, the supervisors have considered sharing a percentage of sales tax with towns.
The topic came up at the February 23 meeting by Barnhart, who said that while a committee was authorized- no final recommendation had been made in years.
It’s unclear how soon this might come to fruition. But the committee is expected to begin meeting effective immediately. ....

New year, same board in Seneca County

It has been a busy few weeks for the Seneca County Board of Supervisors, even though their regularly scheduled session for Jan. 12 was cancelled.
Last week at a special session, Varick Town Supervisor Robert Hayssen, a Republican, was re-elected chair of the board. The final vote was 471-272 in favor of Hayssen, who was challenged for the second year in a row by Waterloo Town Supervisor Don Trout, another Republican. Temporary Chair Mike Ferrara, the Town Supervisor from Seneca Falls, led the reorganizational meeting.
Supervisors Mike Enslow, Ernie Brownell, Ron McGreevy, Mike Cleere, Joe Borst, as well as Trout voted against the Hayssen appointment. “I want to get a lot of things done but one more year is enough for me,” the newly-selected chair said at the meeting. He noted water and sewer issues in the southern end of Seneca County, as well as ongoing issues related to the Cayuga Nation as drivers for the legislative year. ....

Pre-duty screenings will be standard for all Seneca County employees before starting work each day.
It didn’t come easy, but the Seneca County Board of Supervisors utilized a ‘Rule 29’ proceeding to bypass committee – where two supervisors voted against the measure – temporarily stopping it.
The new policy says that employees will have their temperature taken before working. They will also have to attest that they have not had symptoms, or knowingly came into contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
It’ll be tracked within a wellness log, which is standard among many employers. The policy came from the County’s COVID-19 task force, and went before the Board of Supervisors’ Personnel Committee. ....
