SALT LAKE CITY Utah Gov. Spencer Cox told the 1,904 delegates in attendance at the Utah Republican Party s Organizing Convention on Saturday that they need to spend more time volunteering and coming together.
Cox, and Sen. Mitt Romney received boos and obvious disapproval at moments from some in attendance, and Romney survived a censure vote by delegates. But throughout the day the call from them and other Republican leaders was the need to unify the party in both message and behavior to withstand challenges from the left.
They then followed 8 hours of speeches and delegate work with the selection of Carson Jorgensen, 31, a sheep farmer, as the party s new chairman, beating three other candidates, including veteran Stewart Peay, who some had pegged as the favorite going into the convention. ....

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Utah Republicans booed Sen. Mitt Romney but ultimately rejected a motion to censure him Saturday for his votes at President Donald Trump’s impeachment trials.
The measure narrowly failed, 798 to 711, in a vote by delegates to the state GOP convention, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
Romney drew heavy boos when he came to the podium earlier in the day.
Davis County delegate Don Guymon, who authored the resolution, said Romney’s votes to remove Trump from office “hurt the Constitution and hurt the party.”
“This was a process driven by Democrats who hated Trump,” Guymon said. “Romney’s vote in the first impeachment emboldened Democrats who continued to harass Trump.” ....

Republican Maine Sen. Susan Collins was appalled by the Utah GOP s censure vote on Saturday of Sen. Mitt Romney, who was met by a chorus of boos when he took the stage.
Utah Republicans voted 798-711 to defeat the censure resolution toward the end of the party s meeting. Romney moved to remove Trump from office in two illegitimate impeachment trials, which hurt the constitution and hurt the party, said Davis County Del. Don Guymon, who wrote the resolution.
Collins defended Romney on Sunday and said the party should not be helmed by one person, potentially referring to former President Donald Trump. ....
