Apr 15, 2021 BOULDER Colorado soccer has been putting in work for the 2020, now 2021 spring season since mid-summer. The Buffaloes began preparing for an August start back in June of 2020, now after a few hurdles along the way the team is set to take on Utah in Friday s regular-season finale. Colorado (8-5-2, 4-4-2 Pac-12) hopes this isn t its last hurrah. The Buffs with 1.4 points per game this season sit sixth in the Pac-12 standings. A win on Friday would go a long way to help CU secure a spot in the 48-team NCAA Tournament. We put so much work, time and energy on and off the field as all the teams around the country have, head coach ....
BOULDER – Colorado women s basketball returns to the CU Events Center on Friday, hosting California (3:30 p.m. MT). The two-game homestand closes out with a matchup against the top team in the country, No. 1 Stanford on Sunday (Noon). The Buffaloes have a bit of a short week, having already played once this week. CU played at Southern California on Monday, a game that was rescheduled from Sunday. Colorado got behind by 12 to the Trojans and got back to within two in the final two minutes, before coming up just short. It s hard because we have to have a really short memory, head coach JR Payne noted. Every team in the league is so good. It requires so much focus and attention to detail in our preparation. We really can t dwell on anything for long. It was really disappointing to have chances and not be able to convert. I didn t think we performed very well for the first two or three quarters. To still have a chance at the end is great, but it also reminds us that yo ....
BOULDER – February of 2020 seems like it was ages ago, but in reality, it has been 10 long months. When the Colorado women s basketball takes the court against No. 6 Arizona on Friday (5 p.m. MT), it will have been almost 10 months to the date of the last meeting in Boulder. That last meeting was a 50-38 Colorado win over the No. 11 team in the nation. That win, marked the Buffaloes first over an AP-ranked opponent since game three of the 2016-17 season (No. 15 Kentucky). That win was a mark that solidified a likely WNIT bid before the tournament was called off. Almost 10 months later and that game is now cemented in the past. ....
BOULDER – It s all about Pac-12 Conference play for head coach JR Payne and the Colorado women s basketball team. Colorado completed its non-conference slate last Tuesday and now has to dig in for 20 consecutive conference matchups, beginning with Utah on Monday (noon MT, Pac-12 Networks). Colorado (2-3, 0-2 Pac-12) has lost its last three, including a nail-biter at Denver that resulted in CU s third straight loss in five days. After the game at Denver, neither the coaching staff nor the players were making excuses. I m not one to make excuses, Payne expressed after the close loss. I m not going to talk about fatigue. I mean we certainly had a chance to win the ballgame. I m not going to make that excuse. I mean obviously, three games in five days are tough, no matter what. This [Denver] is a really scrappy tough, good team. But they beat us. ....
