JEJU, South Korea Organizers of South Korea s annual competition to be the best at doing nothing seriously, nothing needed just the right spot for the work-from-home parents, remote-learning students and others weary of the pandemic.
So what could be better than a healing forest on the southern island of Jeju? The woodlands are known as a site for other therapeutic programs.
Twenty-eight pandemic-battered competitors gathered under the leafy canopy Wednesday for the Space Out Competition. The premise is simply: zone out for 90 minutes, with the winner having the lowest and most stable heart rate. Spectators also cast votes for the top three who displayed the best Zen. (A Jeju-based hair stylist, who barely moved during the 90 minutes, won.) ....

Nongshim Vice Chairman Shin Dong-won is facing up to the challenge to beef up his company s home meal replacement noodles items following the death of his father Shin Choon-ho.
The younger Shin took over the lead position from his father who died of a chronic illness last month. Two days prior to the founder s death, the vice chairman said during a regular general shareholders meeting that home meal replacements and functional health food would be the next growth engines of the company. ....

How he started
Born in 1930 in Ulsan, South Korea, the late Nongshim chairman was the third in a family of ten siblings. His late oldest brother, Shin Kyuk-ho, was the founder of conglomerate Lotte Group.
After serving military service as a police officer and graduating with a law degree in 1958, Shin helped his brother at Lotte s confectionery business in Japan.
Shin started to take an interest in instant noodles known as ramyeon , a then-recent invention that was gaining popularity in Japan.
As his elder brother did not express any interest in the instant noodles scene, Shin started to look for ways to start his own business against his elder brother s wishes. ....

Shin Choon-ho, founder of South Korea’s leading noodle brand Nongshim, died Saturday, March 27, 2021. The company said Shin’s passing was due to a chronic illness. He was 91.
The late chairman was born in 1930 in Ulsan, South Korea. He had 8 siblings with his oldest brother being Shin Kyuk-ho, founder of retail conglomerate Lotte. In 1965, Shin Choon-ho founded Nongshim then under the name Lotte Food Industrial Company. The name was changed in 1978 to Nongshim, which means “farmer’s heart.”
Nongshim remains to be the largest instant noodles and snack company in South Korea, leading the development of its culinary culture along the way. Today, the company houses several product categories including Chapaguri, Shin Light Air Dried Noodles, Soo Air Dried Noodles, Just Noodles, Shin Black Bowl, Air-dried Noodles, Vegan, Meal Noodle, Bowl Noodle, and of course, the Shin Brand. ....
