(CNS News) – Although the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) contends that melting sea ice, caused by global warming, is causing the polar bear population to decrease, a new report by evolutionary biologist Dr. Susan Crockford reveals that the global population of polar bears is “now almost 30,000 – up from 26,000 in 2015.”
In the Feb. 27 report, Crockford “clarifies that the IUCN’s 2015 Red List assessment for polar bears, which Facebook uses as an authority for ‘fact checking’, is seriously out of date,” according to a statement from the Global Warming Policy Foundation in London. “New and compelling evidence shows that bears in regions with profound summer ice loss are doing well.” ....

The Whole World Must Change To Save Them - International Polar Bear Day Reminder

The Whole World Must Unite To Save The Polar Bears
Polar bears are highly threatened by climate change. According to science, we would lose them by 2100.
In 2020, scientists predicted that polar bears would probably not last longer than the end of this century. Among the thousands of species that the world is trying to save, polar bear conservation is perhaps the most challenging. The whole world contributes to its demise through global warming. People everywhere need to change their ways of living to give the polar bears a new lease of life. And their survival will also determine the well-being of future generations of humans and other species on the planet.  ....

A bear emerges from dense vegetation and pauses on the shore. It’s early spring, and the young grizzly has only recently roused from hibernation, ravenous and driven. He lifts his head and gazes out across the falling tide to the opposite shore, where forested slopes are close enough to make out individual trees. The bear stands and sniffs the air.
Grizzlies can see about as well as we can, but it’s their olfactory powers at least 2,000 times more acute than ours that most likely set them in motion. We’ll never grasp how they perceive the world, let alone what they’re thinking. For some reason, this bear falls back on all fours, ambles away from prime habitat, and wades into the sea. ....

Safe to shoot polar bears? | IceNews

A specialist working group convened by Environment Minister Thorunn Sveinbjarnardottir has come to the conclusion that there is no reason why polar bears that step foot on Iceland should not be shot if this is thought necessary. The conclusion is interesting in the light of discussion that the bears are in danger of extinction because of climate change, as melting ice threatens their territory – the ice throes of the north.
After the bear that visited Iceland at the beginning of June was destroyed, Sveinbjarnardottir organized the working group to go over what happened to the bear and to set a plan for what to do if more bears come to Iceland. “It is my opinion that if the place and conditions are suitable, we should try and capture the bears alive. But we should consider each case separately,” she said. ....
