Hundreds of aluminum cans, dozens of sunglasses, several old tires, and many other items are hidden beneath the waves of Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake. The gems of the Sierra Nevada have long harbored a dirty secret under their pristine waters, but the nonprofit diving crew, Clean Up the Lake, has been steadily working to change that. After a summer of diving around the shores of Donner Lake, which resulted in more than 5,100 pounds of trash removed from the lake bed, Clean Up the Lake is now taking aim at Lake Tahoe in an unprecedented effort to dive along 72 miles of shoreline. ....
By Howie Nave Christmas started early for this guy once the pandemic hit. I put my Christmas lights up over the 4th of July and for a short while started watching Christmas movies too to try and get that feel-good feeling happening. Okay, I also did it because I wanted to watch movies where no one was wearing a mask and hugging one another without fear of being exposed. No small screen for this guy and Got forbid watching one on a screen that fits in your pocket. No thanks. I want that large, theater size screen at home to feel like you’re actually in the movie, kinda like “Pleasantville” ya know? I could see myself in glorious black and white just observing Jimmy Stewart as George Baily in that classic 1946 flick, It s A Wonderful Life. ....
Photo from SCUBA of previous trash pickup A previously announced matching donation by Tahoe Blue Vodka of $100,000 has received its first match from Vail Resorts. The Tahoe Fund said Vail contributed $25,000 in support of its campaign to remove trash around all 72-miles of Lake Tahoe with Clean Up The Lake. The project will be completed by a SCUBA dive team of professionals and volunteers that will begin in Spring 2021. Vail Resorts’ donation, generated by $1 guest donations from lift ticket and season pass sales, brings the project closer to meeting Tahoe Blue Vodka s match. “Having the support of Vail Resorts for a project of this magnitude is amazing,” said Amy Berry, Tahoe Fund CEO. “This project started as a grassroots effort that has quickly grown legs thanks to Tahoe Blue Vodka’s matching donation. Vail Resorts’ donation puts us that much closer to achieving the plan to remove trash around the entirety of Lake Tahoe.” ....
