A running program at Jonesville Community Schools challenges students

JONESVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS Hillsdale Daily News A running program at Jonesville Community Schools has been challenging young students to train for a 5K on Friday. The Comet Cruisers couch to 5K running program for grades 3-5 is coordinated by third-grade teacher Rachel Mandrelle and will culminate Friday for an end-of-the-season run. We had to make a lot of special adaptations to make the program work this year when we couldn t train together in person, Mandrelle said. We set up weekly challenges for which the kids earned postcards from Michigan cities. We called it our Run Through Michigan. Mandrelle also worked to get a grant through the Hillsdale County Community Foundation YOUTH to help purchase an online subscription to a cross training program.

Tawas Elks offering college scholarships; due April 30 The Tawas Area Elks Lodge #2525 announces that applications are now available for their 2021 Community College Scholarship. This scholarship is open to any high school senior from the following high schools: Alpena, Arenac Eastern, AuGres Sims, Hale, Lincoln-Alcona, Oscoda, Standish-Sterling, Tawas Area, Whittemore-Prescott, and the Alternative Education Academy of Iosco County. The student must be attending one of the following community colleges during the 2021-22 academic school year: Alpena Community College, Delta Community College, or Kirtland Community College. Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to the top two applicants, but additional scholarships may be awarded at the time of judging.
