Bilbrey becomes deputy director of safety at Marshall


Julie Bilbrey has been named deputy director of the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate at Marshall Space Flight Center, pending approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Bilbrey will be jointly responsible for planning and directing the center’s safety, reliability, and quality engineering and assurance operations.
Bilbrey’s new position is part of the Senior Executive Service – the personnel system covering top managerial positions in federal agencies.
Since 2009, Bilbrey has held multiple leadership positions in the directorate, including chief of the Program Analysis and Systems Integration Branch, manager of the Mission Systems Assurance and Technical Support Department and, currently, manager of the Vehicle Systems Department. She recently completed a temporary assignment as acting deputy manager of Marshall’s Science and Technology Office. ....

Air Force Veteran Eileen Collins is a NASA astronaut who was the first female pilot and commander of a space shuttle.
Born in November 1956 in Elmira, New York, Eileen Collins remembers the moon landing when she was a child. In an interview with Smithsonian Magazine, she stated that after reading about the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts, she wanted to become one herself. In high school, she kept this goal a secret, aware that it might be a challenge to become an astronaut as a woman. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1978 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and science. ....

ANSI Announces Recipients of the 2020-2021 Leadership and Service Awards


NEW YORK, April 15, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced today the recipients of its 2020-2021 Leadership and Service Awards. Recipients have been recognized for their significant contributions to national and international standardization activities, as well as ongoing commitment to their industry, their nation, and the enhancement of the global voluntary consensus standards system.
In light of the unique circumstances imposed by COVID-19 and the postponement of the 2020 ceremony to 2021, the ANSI Awards Committee has recognized multiple recipients in three award categories typically presented to only one recipient in a given year: the Finegan Standards Medal, Edward Lohse Information Technology Medal, and George S.
