The unfolding controversy surrounding the relationship between Greater Albany Public Schools and local police included another development late Wednesday night.
Police Chief Marcia Harnden issued a statement about Albany officers being asked to leave Albany public school campuses during back-to-school celebrations last week. Harnden also asked that people stop spreading âdangerous and hurtful messagesâ on social media.
âTo our students and families of color who may have been upset or had concerns about our presence on the first day of school, we sincerely regret that you did,â Harnden said. âOur intent was to welcome you back and give you a reason to feel safe and welcome. I m sorry if the experience was negative.â
