By Paidashe Mandivengerei SUSPECTED MDC activists Thursday staged a flash demonstration outside the New Government Complex which houses the justice ministry offices in central Harare to demand to the resignation of Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Chief Justice Luke Malaba. The placard waving activists of about 10 also sprayed graffiti on the walls and floors of the building while chanting protest songs. “Justice now,” read one of the messages. Other messages on the placards read, “Ziyambi Must Go”, “Malaba Must Go”, “Citizens Convergence for Change”, “Mako Is Not A Criminal”, “Free Chivi, Mako, Joanna, Cecilia”, “Hands Off Our Courts”. They later dumped the placards in front of the government building which has been a common spot for demonstrations by teachers, activists and war veterans during the tenure of former Finance Minister Tendai Biti. ....

Judiciary Must Stand Up, Defend the Constitution – Law Expert December 21, 2020 A RENOWNED international advocate Tererai Mafukidze has challenged the judiciary in Zimbabwe urging it follow its constitutional obligations and act as an independent arm without undue interference. He was speaking online last Friday at the Walter Kamba Rule of Law Lecture where he was the guest for the event organised by the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ). Kamba was a lawyer, academic, and the first black vice-chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe from 1981 to 1992. Under his tenure, the UZ expanded its intake of black Zimbabweans. However, he resigned in 1992 after delivering a controversial speech at a graduation, citing government interference and threats to academic freedom. He died in 2007. ....
