Print Truvian Sciences, a San Diego startup that’s developing a benchtop blood testing machine to bring rapid, point-of-care health screening to local pharmacies, medical clinics and corporate wellness centers, has raised $105 million in a third round of venture capital funding. The influx of capital will enable the company to pursue U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of its automated blood testing technology by the end of this year, said Chief Executive Jeff Hawkins. “It is a tremendous round for the company,” said Hawkins, a former Illumina executive. “Not only was it oversubscribed, but it was quite a bit above what we had gone out looking to raise. And key highlights beyond the dollar amount that people tend to focus on are the investors come with deep domain expertise in health care, in retail, in consumer technology and in consumer products.” ....
By Andy Pasztor and Andrew Tangel NASA and Boeing Co. suffered a potentially major setback in their deep-space ambitions when the engines for a giant new rocket shut down prematurely Saturday during a key test on the ground. The engines were supposed to produce power for eight minutes but shut down after about 60 seconds while fastened to a stand at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Program officials had said four minutes would be the minimum time to gain confidence in the reliability of the engines, fuel system and surrounding structures. National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials said they couldn t immediately determine the cause of the premature shutdown, and therefore it was too early to determine what fixes would be necessary or even if the test needed to be repeated. They said engineers didn t know whether it was a hardware, software or sensor malfunction. ....

Updated Dec. 17, 2020 11:42 am ET General Mills Inc. on Thursday said the initial surge in sales at the start of the pandemic is moderating but expects to benefit from consumers choosing to eat more at home for years as they continue to grapple with financial strain or work remotely. “What we have learned from past recessions is that one of the first ways consumers look to save money is by eating at home more than at restaurants,” Chief Executive Jeff Harmening said in an interview. Sales at General Mills’ North America retail division, which includes U.S. groceries, rose 9% in the latest quarter from a year ago, after jumping 14% in the quarter that ended in August. Campbell Soup Co. last week reported a similar trend, with sales growth receding. ....
