According to Chief John Carmichael, who has only been with the Newton Police Department for one month, during the last five break-ins there were forced entries through first floor windows and second floor balconies. Jewelry, handbags, cash, and heirlooms were usually taken during the weekend incidents. Families were gone from their homes for a short period of time during the break-ins, said Carmichael.
