Top Story May 5, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Rivalries among different services within the civil bureaucracy have pushed the civil service to a new low. The most recent example of this divide was the statement issued by the All Pakistan Provincial Management Services Officers Association against Chief Secretary Punjab for condemning the humiliating treatment meted out to the Assistant Commissioner Sialkot by the Punjab CM’s media adviser Firdous Ashiq Awan. The association in its statement said on Monday that the officers belonging to the provincial services stand by the provincial government and will not allow any federal service or its top representative the chief secretary in this case to blackmail the province because of one incident. Significantly, the provincial association did not condemn the incident that had attracted a great deal of media attention. ....
Punjab Govt Begins Forcibly Retiring Corrupt Employees The government of Punjab has started forced retirement of corrupt and incompetent employees after 20 years of service. As per reports, the government has written a letter to the provincial departments asking for lists of corrupt officers to be submitted within ten days. Action will be taken against these officers under the Punjab Civil Servants Directory Retirement Service Rules 2021. ALSO READ The officers whose performance has been marked as ‘average’ or ‘poor’ thrice on their annual reports, or are facing corruption charges after returning ill-gotten money by entering a plea bargain with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be forced into retirement under the rules. ....

This decision was taken in a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid. Under the decision, all types of public transport and tourist destinations across the province will remain closed from May 8. Checkpoints manned by Rangers and Police personnel will be set up at the entrances and exits of cities. ....

Dr Firdous said that 133 sites had been identified across the province for Prime Minister s affordable housing scheme and 54 locations had also been chosen in the first phase for the construction of houses.
