KILLEEN, Texas - Two juveniles are in custody Saturday evening after Killeen police say they stole a vehicle with an infant inside.
Killeen police say that a 911 call came in just before 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30 about a vehicle stolen in the 3600 block of Zephyr Road with a nine-month-old boy inside.
When officers arrived, they learned that the vehicle s owner had left it running while he stepped out to briefly talk to his spouse as she placed a food order at the restaurant. He then turned around and noticed the vehicle was missing, according to Killeen police. ....

(CNN)The chief of police in Killeen, Texas, is defending an officer who shot and killed a Black man during a mental health check earlier this month.
Officer Reynaldo Contreras arrived at the home of Patrick Warren on January 10 after Warren s family called for psychiatric help.
The police department said in a statement that, upon the officer s arrival, Warren was emotionally distressed, and newly released body camera footage shows the tense moments that led to Contreras firing his weapon at Warren three times. ....

KPD officer from officer involved shooting is Army veteran

The Killeen Police Department officer who shot and killed Patrick Warren Sr. during a psychiatric call on Jan. 10 is a decorated military veteran who served 16 years in the Army, including a pair of deployments, Army officials verified this week.
The police officer, Reynaldo Contreras, worked as a Patriot Launching Station operator and Avenger crewmember during his time in the Army, from 1999 to 2015. He left the Army as a sergeant first class and deployed to Kuwait from November 2011 to October 2012 and to Iraq from September 2003 to May 2004, according to the Army.
He served at Fort Hood between March 2009 and July 2015.
Contreras, a five-year veteran of KPD, is on administrative leave while KPD detectives and the Texas Rangers investigate the case, which is normal protocol for officer involved shootings. ....

Lawyer: KPD's 'lack of a mental health response led to the death' | Crime

The lawyer for the family of Patrick Warren Sr., a man shot and killed by a Killeen Police Department officer, has said that he and the family are continuing on course to file criminal charges against the officer and a civil rights suit against the city of Killeen.
Lee Merritt said in an online press conference that Officer Reynaldo Contreras needs to be arrested and fired and he added that the response from KPD Police Chief Charles Kimble âseemed to conclude this was not only one of his best officers for a mental health response, but that he had proper training.â ....
