Jump to navigation By 06/16/2021 For the first time ever, the Point Reyes National Seashore is providing supplemental water to the fenced tule elk herd on Tomales Point. The park announced last week that it had installed three 250-gallon troughs at the south end of the reserve that will remain there at least until the winter rains. Dave Press, the park’s wildlife ecologist, said there are still natural water sources for the herd, and that the move was made out of “an abundance of caution.” A tule elk requires five to eight gallons of water a day, moisture it finds in natural seeps, springs and ponds. Depending on how foggy the seashore gets, elk also get a significant amount of water from forage. But drought conditions on the peninsula are already much worse than in recent summers. “There are reliable seeps and springs that have completely dried up, which is nothing we’ve ever observed before,” Mr. Press said. ....
Updated 4/26/2021 11:30 AM Barrington will conduct its annual hydrant flushing from May 3 to May 19 to eliminate as much mineral content as possible from the water supply. Flushing will occur in the village, Paganica of Barrington Hills, Braymore, Weatherstone, Glencrest, and Sanctuary of Inverness between from May 3-14, and in Abbey Woods and Estates of Inverness Ridge from May 17-19.
During flushing operations, residents may experience discoloration, low water pressure and rusty water. This may occur during the entire flushing period, even when flushing may not be in your immediate area. Although water may be discolored, it is safe to drink. However, until the water runs clear, residents should avoid washing clothes, especially whites. ....
Jump to navigation By 01/20/2021 The smoke from the Woodward Fire was still lingering in the air when a group of Inverness residents decided that the village’s immediate needs related to wildfire prevention and water storage would require a new funding source. In a survey launched this month, residents are weighing in on whether they would support a new parcel tax that the Inverness Association hopes to sponsor. “The biggest driver of this is climate change,” said Jerry Meral, who sits on the association’s board and had the idea for the tax. “Look, we have had almost no rain halfway through January, and that’s true throughout the whole Pacific Southwest, it’s not just Inverness. And so I think we need to be ready to be ready with our water supply and to fight the fires we all know are getting more and more frequent. Now whether the Inverness voters share that view, I guess we will find out.” ....
