Japan’s Ryota Yamamoto has returned to old jumping strength and won the Provisional Competition Round in Klingenthal. The 23-year-old jumped 139.5 metres and topped the result list with a point total of exatly 140.
0.9 points behind the Japanese, Lukas Greiderer (AUT) came in second with a jump of also 139.5 metres. If the PCR has to be used in case of adverse weather conditions, the two athletes would start four seconds apart. France’s Laurent Mühlethaler continued with his impressive jumping performances on rank three (138 m; 137.6 p.) and would start ten seconds after the leader Yamamoto. ....

Klingenthal presented itself as a perfect winter wonderland on the first day of the Continental Cup weekend, if only there had been no wind. After one trial round and the Provisional Competition Round on Friday morning, the competition round for the Individual Gundersen 5km had to be interrupted over and over again until the jury decided that jumping wasn’t possible anymore and PCR had to be used.
Norway’s Simen Tiller was the lucky jumping round winner with a jump to 139.0m (137.5p.), which brought him an advantage of 26 seconds ahead of his teammate Espen Andersen (133.0m, 131.0p.) and Austria’s Christian Deuschl (130.0m, 131.0p.). Fourth place after jumping went to Austria’s Philipp Orter (134.0m, 130.1p.), fifth was Szczepan Kupczak (132.5m, 126.4p.), on rank six followed Lars Ivar Skaarset (133.0m, 125.4p.). ....

Italy’s Annika Sieff is the very first winner of a provisional competition round in a Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined Women’s World Cup. With a jump to 88.5 metres and 119.6 points, the 17-year-old was able to place herself in front.
The result of the jumping round was a very close affair and the women showed some great performances in their World Cup debut: a total number of 14 athletes would start within one minute if the Provisional Competition Round has to be used in case of bad weather. ....
