938 Ludhiana: A surprise raid conducted by staff of the Central Jail here led to the seizure of six mobile phones from six jail inmates. The inmates have been identified as Ashish Masih, Kulwinder Singh, Sushil Kumar, Dharminder Singh, Baljit Singh and Gurmel Singh. Assistant jail superintendent Tarsem Pal Sharma said when belongings of the inmates were checked, the mobile phones were seized. A probe would be initiated to inquire how they managed to get the mobile phones in the jail. Sources said after the recovery of the mobile phones, the Jail Department had also initiated a separate probe to find out if any staff of the jail facilitated the entry of the phones into the jail. Notably, mobile phones are being seized from jail inmates and in most of the cases, the department had failed to establish the role of any jail staff. TNS ....

From Our India Correspondent ON TUESDAY 26th January, Indian Republic Day, a huge parade took place of at least 37 farm unions. In this rally, they covered around 100 kilometres of the national capital. The rally started from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh region, and reached Delhi, where they clashed with the police. The police used tear gas and the situation took a violent turn after a few farmers were injured and one young farmer, aged 27 named Navneet Singh from Bajpur, was shot dead by the police. Police are trying to cover it up by saying the farmer died because his tractor overturned. ....
