All their springtime work paid off for the Beta club members from Siegel Middle with a pair of top five finishes at the National Beta Convention, including first place in the performing arts solo, duo, trio category.
The first-place team included McKenna Elliott, Samantha Festervand and Reese Lynam and they beat out more than 30 schools competing in-person and even more virtual entries.
Fellow eighth-grader Noah Wright took third in social studies.
This was the second year in a row Wright placed at the National Convention. He was third in the seventh grade competition last year.

Power Outage in Smyrna Impacts Schools on Thursday Jan 21, 2021 at 10:03 am by WGNS
A power outage caused issues in Smyrna, TN at several schools on Thursday morning.
Smyrna-area parents received an audio message from the schools their children attend when the issue began.
The schools impacted by the power outage included:
- Rocky Fork Elementary
Rutherford County Schools spokesperson James Evans stated, “The power went out about 8:15 this morning at those schools, and we were in contact with those principals while waiting for word from the electric company. We have now received word from the electric company that power is being restored throughout the next hour. Many of our affected schools have already been restored, but it will take a few more minutes before their phone systems reboot.”
