Glasgow Independent Schools votes to return most students by March 8, Lessenberry voices concerns

GLASGOW, Ky. – Members of the Glasgow Independent School board voiced at a Jan. 11 meeting varying opinions about the way their school system should allow students back into classrooms.
Keith Hale, the school system’s superintendent, said state government has given school systems autonomy to make decisions about their policies, but they must abide by “Healthy at School” guidelines. And for that reason the school system proposed a phased return of each school, meaning students will return to a five day schedule each week. ....

The pandemic in Kentucky remained on a slight downward trend Sunday, with declines in the new-case average and other metrics, including the percentage of Kentuckians testing positive for the coronavirus in the past seven days. However, the trend in deaths from Covid-19 continued to rise, making January the deadliest month of the pandemic in the state.
 
The state reported 2,018 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the lowest on a Sunday since Jan. 3. The seven-day rolling average dropped to 2,854, after rising by 100 the day before, the first rise in 10 days. ....

Donald Wayne Hall


Franklin – Mr. Donald (Don) Wayne Hall of Franklin died Friday evening, December 18, 2020, at his residence. Crafton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Don spent his youth in Youngstown, Ohio and Franklin, Kentucky. He graduated from Franklin Simpson High School in 1959. He would remain a resident of Franklin for the rest of his life. He was the son of the late Wendall B. Hall and Ottie Stringer Hall. He was also preceded in death by a brother – Roger B. “Spider” Hall. After graduation, Don joined the US Navy. In 1962 Don worked 72 hours straight to repair his ship’s radar. This repair allowed his ship, the destroyer USS Noa, to be a part of the recovery team for Mercury Astronaut John Glenn’s splashdown of the Friendship Seven. The USS Noa was the first ship to find the Friendship Seven by radar. By order of NASA, the Noa was the ship to pick up the grateful astronaut. After his Navy servic ....
