Supplied Waste processing company Remediation NZ is disappointed New Plymouth District Council is withdrawing support for its North Taranaki Uruti waste disposal site. New Plymouth’s household food waste will be trucked to a north Waikato facility for at least another two years after the district council pulled its support for a controversial Taranaki composting operation. Since 2019 the district’s food scraps have been shipped 300km to Hampton Downs while the local processor Remediation NZ got its consents sorted to process the waste within the district at Uruti. But the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) has now shut the door on that plan and is withdrawing all support for the consents because of “serious environmental concerns” about the site. ....

Climate Justice Taranaki researcher Catherine Cheung told a community meeting recently Todd Energy wanted to drill 24 new wells at its Mangahewa C and D wellsites. Todd s proposal to expand the two wellsites and drill two dozen new wells is a slap in the face to everyone who is committed to reducing our own carbon footprint to alleviate the impacts of climate chaos. ....
