After a long haul, this month’s (April 7) decision by the Council of Common Interest (CCI) to have uniform food standards in the whole country might be a step in the right direction to evolve internationally competitive regulations.
But for developing a vertical consumer-friendly safe food regulatory regime, the provincial governments have to surrender the power of making standards back to the federal government by amending their food laws, and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has to have new legislation altogether. The provincial food regulatory bodies will only have the authority to enforce the federal government standards. ....

Ghana To Attract Swiss Investors Through Bilateral Relations

Ghana will leverage its strong bilateral relations with Switzerland to attract Swiss investors for the pharmaceutical industry.
It is also working to make Switzerland a destination for products manufactured in Ghana under the Industrial Transformation Programme, being implemented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, to deliver on the President’s Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
Mr Alan Kyerematen, the Minister for Trade and Industry, said this when Mr Philipp Stalder, the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana called on him in Accra.
He said although diplomatic relations were formally established after Ghana gained independence in 1957, relations between Ghana and Switzerland dated back to 1828, when Swiss missionaries settled in the Gold Coast. ....

UNIDO and Switzerland to support beef value chain in Costa Rica

As part of the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP) designed to encourage systematic trade development along specific value chains, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) will support Costa Rica in achieving compliance with the European Union regulations and quality standards. A project document concerning the related intervention was signed today by LI Yong, Director General of UNIDO, and the Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to UNIDO. The signing was witnessed by the Permanent Representative of Switzerland to UNIDO.
The two-year intervention has an overall budget of EUR 320,000 and will include activities aimed to enhance traceability, laboratory capacities, and private sector abilities to comply with international quality standards. The main national counterpart is the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (COMEX), while other counterparts include the National Anima ....
