McCary, chief diversity and belonging officer at Bowling Green State University, was a speaker for the Presidential Spotlight Series during this spring’s ACPA21 Virtual Experience. More than 300 original or innovative ideas centering on the ACPA’s strategic imperative on racial justice and decolonization were submitted by some of higher education’s most groundbreaking scholars and scholar practitioners for consideration. ....

Perry ’59, ’65 in recognition of legacy of diversity and belonging Perry served as inaugural director of University’s ethnic studies program Bowling Green State University is honoring Dr. Robert L. Perry ’59, ’65 the inaugural director of the University’s ethnic studies program, with the naming of the Robert L. Perry Veranda. Located at Shatzel Hall, the Robert L. Perry Veranda recognizes Perry’s legacy of shaping diversity and belonging initiatives at BGSU. The BGSU Board of Trustees approved the naming at the May 21 meeting. Among his vast accomplishments, Perry helped establish the University’s Cultural Diversity in the United States requirement in 1992, profiled in The Chronicle of Higher Education as the first of its kind at any university in the country. The requirement continues today and serves as the foundation of the University’s efforts to educate all students on the importance of race and democracy. ....
Chris Willis to bike across the country to raise money for public education BGSU associate professor wants to thank K-12 teachers, administrators and staff for their resilience during COVID By Bob Cunningham ’18 Dr. Chris Willis has big plans this summer. He is going to ride his bike across the United States to raise money for public education. Willis, associate professor in Bowling Green State University’s College of Education and Human Development, plans to traverse the Northern Tier Route by the Adventure Cycling Association, beginning in Anacortes, Washington, on June 7 and ending in Bar Harbor, Maine, on Aug. 2. Willis’ goal is to raise $51,000 for public education $1,000 for each of the 51 school districts he plans to stay in during his transcontinental journey that will total nearly 4,300 miles over the course of 57 days with a stop in Bowling Green on July 17. ....
