Gleaners Society visits Miller Center By Evelyn Long - For The Sentinel Susie Sexton with her student, Lily, at the recent meeting of Chester Arbor of the Gleaners at the Miller Center, Cardington. Courtesy photo CARDINGTON Members of Chester Arbor of the Gleaners Society met April 12 at the Miller Center, where the program was given by Susie Sexton, family and civic engagement coordinator with the Arbor. Also present was one of Sexton’s students, Lily. Highlights of the meeting included how COVID has impacted the program at school. A tour of the school followed the business meeting. Attending were 25 members and six guests including the society’s newest community service award recipient, 2020, Lea Ann Maceyko, who explained her campaign to “Love One Another.” ....
By Tammy Jewell In 2000, the federal government allocated funds for organizations to start up Adult Day Service programs. At that time, Gerontology Network based in Grand Rapids was already providing services in Lenawee County, allowing them to be the initial supporting agency. Under the leadership of Gerontology Network and visionary members such as Myra Goddard and Tom MacNaughton, Daybreak Adult Day Services was able to welcome participants to a newly renovated space on U.S. 223 on March 9, 2001. The intent of a day program was to provide caregivers an additional support system, while at the same time, providing purpose to each individual enrolled. By offering additional support, family caregivers could add leisure to their daily lives, lessening the challenges that are known to be associated with the role of caregiving. ....
Daybreak Adult Day Services turns 20 The Daily Telegram As director of Daybreak Adult Day Services, a part of the Lenawee Department on Aging, I would like to share with you that we have crossed another milestone in the history of the program. In March, Daybreak Adult Day Services will recognize 20 years of service. You say, how can that be? Daybreak began serving Lenawee County in 2001. When knowing how much time it takes to be a caregiver, the purpose of Daybreak was to give caregivers a break from their 24-hour jobs. And, also offer them the reassurance that the person they were caring for would be cared for in a safe and structured environment. ....
