About two dozen people evacuated because of the Cloverdale fire near Prince Albert say they are scared, but remain hopeful their homes will be there when it is safe to return.
The evacuees are now staying at Prince Albert’s Holiday Inn Express after they were told to leave their homes. Some had to evacuate with little or no warning.
Tammy Chandler and her husband arrived at the hotel late Monday afternoon. Chandler said they both work from home and, on Monday at around 3 p.m., her husband noticed the blaze not far from their property.
PRINCE ALBERT A wildfire near Prince Albert spanning about 3,700 hectares forced several families from their homes, wondering if and when they’ll be able to return. Tammy Chandler and her husband first noticed the flames – which eventually expanded to become the Cloverdale fire – at around 3 p.m. on Monday. They live on the south side of Highway 55 northeast of the city. Although the fire is now east of their home, Chandler said the city told her Wednesday morning that it will be at least another 24 hours before they can return. The couple is staying at the Holiday Inn Express in the meantime.
