The Zelensky family had one of the closest calls. Their home quarter is located east of Highway 55, just north of the Berg Subdivision that was evacuated Wednesday morning.
Although the exact timeline is “blurry,” Penny Zelensky explained shortly after receiving word of the fire on Monday, the family began coordinating matters. They moved equipment like their tractor and lawnmower out onto the field away from the forest edge. Zelensky’s sons drove up from Saskatoon to assist and neighbours also lent their hands and equipment. Using two tankers each carrying over 1,000 gallons of water they started hosing down their home, the yard, and the tree line, as well as putting a sprinkler on the roof.

More evacuations have been ordered as the wildfire burning north of Prince Albert continues to grow.
On Wednesday morning, an evacuation order was issued for residents of the Berg Subdivision of the RM of Garden River.
The evacuation order noted that the fire was threatening the residents.
“The wildfire is fast moving and individuals that are in the Berg Subdivision must start evacuation immediately,” the alert, sent over the province’s emergency alert system, read. Officials say the expanded evacuation notice affects roughly a dozen acreages located east of the fire.
People are asked to register at the Margo Fournier Centre in downtown Prince Albert once they evacuate.

PRINCE ALBERT A wildfire near Prince Albert spanning about 3,700 hectares forced several families from their homes, wondering if and when they’ll be able to return. Tammy Chandler and her husband first noticed the flames – which eventually expanded to become the Cloverdale fire – at around 3 p.m. on Monday. They live on the south side of Highway 55 northeast of the city. Although the fire is now east of their home, Chandler said the city told her Wednesday morning that it will be at least another 24 hours before they can return. The couple is staying at the Holiday Inn Express in the meantime.
