A group that includes the district earlier this week filed a motion to intervene as defendants in the cases of Clayton v. Washington and Quinn v. Washington. Chapel Hill Mobile Home Park Caught at Center of Rezoning Proposals
The Chapel Hill Town Council will consider a redevelopment project along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at its meeting on Wednesday. The proposed 1200 MLK project is the redevelopment of the existing Tar Heel Mobile Home Park and the non-operational Marathon Service Station, on the east side of Martin Luther King Boulevard, across from the Northfield Drive intersection. The project is proposing to redevelop the existing gas station site with a new, larger 5,700 square foot facility along with a 100,000 square foot self-storage building. The site consists of two parcels, totaling 13.9 acres, with the old Marathon Service Station at the front of the site and approximately 73 existing mobile home units at the rear. ....

CHAPEL HILL â At least one UNC fraternity chapter has been suspended by its national headquarters after local and federal law enforcement officials announced that some members had been charged in connection with a major drug network. The university also has suspended ties with three fraternities connected to the multi-year drug investigation announced late last week. Local law enforcement and the U.S. Attorney s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina named current and former students at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Appalachian State University among 21 people charged in the last year. Members of UNC s Kappa Sigma, Phi Gamma Delta and Beta Theta Pi fraternities have been accused of buying and selling cocaine, marijuana and a litany of other illegal drugs, U.S. attorney Matthew G.T. Martin said. He estimated the network earned more than $1.5 million but cautioned that the investigation and the tally of drug sale proceeds are not complete. ....
