Fort Bend chamber appoints new vice president

The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce announced May 18 that the organization has named Juliette Nessmith as its new vice president.
Nessmith has been with chamber for seven years, according to a news release from the organization, most recently serving as its director of programs before being appointed to the new position.
According to the chamber, Nessmith received her bachelorâs degree in business administration and management from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2011. She was with the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce prior to joining the Fort Bend Chamber, and was a graduate of the Fort Bend Leadership Forum Class of 2015. ....

House committee approves St. Tammany casino vote

A House committee votes 8-2 in favor of legislation allowing St. Tammany voters the opportunity to decide whether or not they’d like a waterfront casino in Slidell.
St. Tammany Corporation CEO Chris Masingill said they’ve worked out a five percent revenue share agreement with casino owners Pacific Peninsula, who are moving the license from Bossier City.
“This project represents almost eight million in new resources to support additional investment in things like infrastructure, technology, beautification, and coastal restoration projects,” said Masingill who also noted the 250 million dollar project would create 1,900 direct jobs at the facility.
The bill is backed by the St. Tammany Chamber and Northshore Business Council. Business Council CEO Bonnie Eades said local residents deserve a chance to vote on this. ....

A Senate committee narrowly approves legislation allowing the people of St. Tammany Parish to vote on allowing a casino to operate in Slidell.
Bill author Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt said a developer has proposed a waterfront casino that would create 1,900 permanent jobs and keep parish residents from spending money in Mississippi.
“We have Mississippi casinos who are members of our St. Tammany Chamber, they are big sponsors of lots of local community events in Slidell because we are good customers in Mississippi,” said Hewitt. “We love the crab leg buffet in Bay St. Lewis.” ....
