‘Public have become careless since Tamil Nadu has a positivity rate of 0.9%’
Complacency in adhering to precautionary norms may lead to a surge in COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan warned on Monday.
“COVID-19 cases are on the rise in various districts of Maharashtra. On Sunday, it recorded nearly 6,900 new cases. Neighbouring Kerala is also continuously reporting daily cases between the range of 4,000 and 6,000. The positivity rate is high in many States, such as Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The public have become careless because Tamil Nadu has a positivity rate of 0.9%,” he told presspersons. ....

Tamil Nadu reports 449 fresh COVID-19 cases


As many as 449 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
Chennai reported 151 cases, Coimbatore 40 and Chengalpattu 34. The fresh cases took the State’s tally to 8,48,724.
Two returnees from Kerala and West Bengal were among those who tested positive for the infection. There was no new case in Kallakurichi, while 25 districts clocked fresh cases in single digits.
Chennai’s overall case count stood at 2,34,491, followed by Coimbatore (55,502) and Chengalpattu (52,497). The State accounts for a total of 4,091 active cases. Another 461 persons were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of persons discharged till date to 8,32,167.
Six persons succumbed to the infection four in Chennai and one each in Chengalpattu and Coimbatore. ....

No fear of second wave in Tamil Nadu. says Health Minister
While other States in the country are experiencing a slight surge in COVID-19 cases, there is no fear of a second wave in Tamil Nadu, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar said on Saturday. “We continue to process at least 50,000 RT-PCR samples in a day, and our doctors have become experts in treating COVID-19 patients, even those with co-morbidities,” he said.
The Health Minister was addressing presspersons after taking the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Tiruchi Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital. “We are in a unique position as cases are on a decline and the vaccination drive is picking up. Through vaccination, we can aim to report far lesser cases of COVID-19 soon,” he said. A total of 3,59,000 doses have been administered to frontline workers in the State so far, he said, adding that there was adequate stock of both Covishield and Covaxin. “We have 14,85,000 vials of Covishield vaccines ....
