SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The South Lake Tahoe City Council moved forward with canceling the development agreement with Perfect Union SLT, LLC during its meeting on Tuesday, June 1. Perfect Union received a cannabis use permit in Nov. 2019 and the council approved a development agreement with them in Feb. 2020. As part of that agreement, Perfect Union SLT was required to be operational within a year of agreement being approved. The business did not open its doors within a year, which they said was because of delays caused by COVID-19. The planning commission denied an appeal for an extension. The company was given 30-days to cure the default or at least started the process of curing the default but city attorney Heather Stroud said they failed to do so. ....

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The South Lake Tahoe City Council approved the creation of a Police Advisory Commission, a commission that community members have sought over the last year. The commission will review use of force statistics, annual reports of complaints, investigations, nature, outcomes, ensure cultural competency, diversity, and bias training and recommend department policy changes, in addition to other tasks. The commission will be made up of five members, two from the multi-cultural alliance, one from the school district or community college, one from the business community and one at-large member. Police Chief David Stevenson and members of the council reiterated the importance of diversity on this commission. ....
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. Any ideas about a regional sex offender facility being established in South Lake Tahoe were squashed Tuesday by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. District 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel led the charge to immediately stop the process with the board voting 4-1 to direct staff not to proceed with pursuing a grant that could have refurbished the existing juvenile treatment center, located at 1041 Al Tahoe Boulevard, and turned it into a facility that could handle incarcerated youth sex offenders, among other offenses. “The process has to change here and now,” Novasel said during the meeting. “This is not OK. We’re a very small community … for so many reasons this is a no for me. I think we need to make a clear statement today.” ....
