New Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Hendrell Remus has announced the addition of new staff members, following a
Maria Brewer is staying on as director of party affairs while taking on new training responsibilities. She has worked for the party since 2017.
Tamara Bates is the new director of political affairs. She was regional field director for Woke Vote during the recent U.S. Senate races in Georgia. Bates is replacing Evan Latt in the position.
Remus named Arsenio Williams the party’s new operations manager. He succeeds Sandra Sepulveda, a Metro Councilmember.
Joshua Karp will work as a strategic communications adviser for the party. He has worked for the Florida Democratic Party and on the campaigns of Andrew Gillum, Jaime Harrison and Jon Ossoff. ....

A ‘Stand your Ground’ bill has passed its first hurdle after a Senate committee passed the measure by a 5-2 vote on Wednesday (Jan. 13).
The first bill to be heard by the Senate Judiciary committee this session was SB24 – a bill ending the duty to retreat when using physical or deadly force.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Bob Ballinger, R-Oark, said he was confident it would pass out of committee – a similar sentiment shared by Sen. Stephanie Flowers, D-Pine Bluff. ....
