New cases break 4,000 mark


The previous highs were registered this week on Thursday, 3,337, and on Tuesday, 3,309.
In yesterday’s Covid-19 figures, there were also eight deaths, taking the death toll to 594.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 1,466, followed by Johor (719), Sabah (449), Kuala Lumpur (347) and Negri Sembilan (214).
“The cases reported today (yesterday) were due to activities or movements before Jan 13, ” said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (

The Health director-general said the number of active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia had reached 37,126.
The country now has 155,095 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic last year.
However, there were also 2,148 Covid-19 patients who were discharged, bringing the number of recoveries to 117,375 or 75.7% of the total number of cases. ....

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported a new record of 4,029 Covid-19 cases and eight deaths in the past 24 hours.
This is the first time the number of infections has surpassed the 4,000 mark. The previous record high was 3,337 cases in a day.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,148 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 117,375.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 155,095.
There are 37,126 active cases with 206 patients receiving intensive care, of which 79 require respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the eight deaths bring the toll to 594. ....

Covid-19: Malaysia's daily cases top 4,000 for the first time at 4,029, with eight more deaths


KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 16): Malaysia s daily Covid-19 cases topped 4,000 for the first time today at 4,029, which pushed the cumulative number of confirmed infections in the country to 155,095. Eight more deaths were reported, bringing the coronavirus death toll here to 594.
According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), eight of the new cases were imported, whereby the individuals were infected overseas, while the rest were local transmissions, comprising 2,711 citizens and 1,310 non-citizens.
Selangor contributed the highest proportion of cases at 1,466 (36.4% of total new infections), followed by Johor (719 cases), Sabah (449 cases), Kuala Lumpur (347 cases) and Negeri Sembilan (214 cases).
As for the eight new deaths reported, four were from Sabah and one each was recorded in Selangor, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. ....

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Integrated hospital near here will start operating on Jan 24 to treat COVID-19 patients in categories three, four and five to be stabilised before they are sent for intensive treatment to the hospital.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the strategy was aimed at treating COVID-19 patients from the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) MAEPS 2.0 categories one and two which suddenly fell into categories three, four and five.

He said the hospital located in Dewan B would provide the same facilities as in other hospitals such as blood pressure equipment and negative pressure tent with 30 beds for categories three and four while outside the hall a tent for transit Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 10 beds. ....
